The international Committee to protect journalists condemned the attacks on media on the eve of the Ukrainian elections

The international organization Committee to protect journalists drew attention to the aggravation of the situation with attacks on the rights of journalists in Ukraine on the eve of elections. On 16 March the head of the National Union of journalists of Ukraine Sergey Tomilenko on his page on the social network Facebook

The Committee mentions the beating of the crew of the program "Schemes", the ban on the entry of the Austrian journalist Christian Versutta (who was planning to interview candidates Yulia Tymoshenko and Vladimir Zelensky), a judicial authorization to conduct a search in the editorial office of "New time" searching for the sources of information of journalists.

The Committee believe that the government must ensure that journalists were free to carry out their work during the Ukrainian elections.

Recently the United Nations published a report on the current Ukraine an atmosphere of intimidation where citizens cannot openly discuss the questions of public interest, to Express their disagreement with the policy.

Count of the cases of harassment of journalists in Ukraine goes on tens. Just last year there were about 80 cases of attacks on media workers: mainly those, whose point of view differs from the official position of Kiev. They are subjected to pressure and be targeted.

Moreover, on 15 March Tomilenko said that the country registered a bill according to which for the distribution of inaccurate information to journalists face criminal liability, fines and corrective work.
